Electrophoretic Displays: Electronic Paper for 21st Century Applications

A new generation of particle based electronic paper electrophoretic displays (EPD) has been developed by E Ink and is being shipped in mass production for a wide variety of applications.

EPDs have viewing characteristics much more like reflective paper than the LCD and OLED displays in your cell phones and TVs that are more viewing angle dependent and are not so viewable in direct sunlight.

EPDs are also "bistable", that is they maintain an image for years, even with no power.   They have become the display of choice for electronic readers, with millions of displays being sold each year for that application alone.

HIstory & Challenges
Dr. McCreary's presentation will cover the history and challenges of the development of commercially successful EPDs by E Ink along with exciting new applications being launched including electronic shelf labels, wearables, IoT, and architectural products.   Some new application demonstrators will be available to see.
